An E. burchelli army ant soldier stands guard as workers rush by on a foraging trail.

A single army ant holds a giant spider from escaping while it waits for reinforcements

Army ants often form bridges with their bodies, making
the trail smoother for the rest of the colony.

As the day progresses, the ants collect more and more pray.
It is often stored in "intermediate bivouacs" along the foraging trail.
Guarded by soldiers and many ants, these food caches can remain for hours before their are retrieved.
